About the series

TOS is where it all began. It's much less of an ensamble show than the later series, mostly hinging on Kirk, Spock, and McCoy, and fairly constant action. The effects and costumes can get really silly, but personally I love that. As it started in 1966, there's bound to be some stuff that's out of date, but viewed in the lens of the time it was often insanely progressive (to the point of episodes occasionally being banned in the southern US), and a lot of the social commentary of it holds up today. Much appreciation for that.

And spirk gave us fanfiction culture, so yk. Win.

The show itself takes place on the enterprise, usually facing one crisis or another, usually ending with a short and sweet conversation on the bridge and launching right into another crisis again the next episode. These people really can't catch a break.

(Spoilers ahead)

Actual plots include:

-Spock's alive but his brain is missing and we have to find it

-McCoy's ex-girlfriend is actually an evil doppleganger space alien that kills people by stealing all the salt from their bodies

-Entire planet of chicago gangsters

-Alien kidnaps Kirk by making his particles move really fast so they can make out

-Orb That Makes People Racist gets chased off the ship

-Everyone is stuck in a Western

-Everyone is stuck in a Western AGAIN

-Spock is in heat and he needs to kill Kirk about it

-McCoy joins a cult because he thinks he's dying

Yes, basically the entire show is like that, and we love it for that.

Personally, I'll take these over modern cgi any day. They just feel more fun.
